The public-records directory — free official sources first

Public Records Central

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 21, 2026

Public Records Central (“Public Records Central,” “we,” “us,” or “the Site”) is a free directory that explains how and where to obtain public records from official government sources, organized by state, county, and record type. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect when you use the Site, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Site, you agree to this Policy.

Information we collect

We keep data collection to a minimum. Specifically:

  • Information you choose to submit. If you use our opt-out / data-request form, we collect the details you provide (such as a name, a URL, or contact information) only to locate, verify, and act on your request. We do not use this information for marketing.
  • Analytics data. With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate, non-identifying usage — for example, which pages are visited and general traffic sources. Analytics only loads after you accept analytics cookies in our consent banner. If you decline, these cookies are not set.
  • Standard server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider may process technical information such as IP address and browser type to deliver and secure the Site. We do not use this information to build profiles of visitors.

We do not ask you to create an account to browse, and we do not knowingly collect Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, or other sensitive personal information from general use of the Site.

Cookies and analytics

We use a consent banner to control non-essential cookies. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4) are only set if you accept them, and you can change your choice at any time. Essential cookies needed to operate the Site may be used without consent. Google processes analytics data under its own privacy terms; we configure analytics to avoid collecting personally identifying details.

Affiliate links and third-party sites

Public Records Central always points you to free official government sources first. Some pages also include links to third-party paid record-retrieval services, which may be affiliate links. If you click one and use that service, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.

When you follow a link to a government agency or a third-party partner, you leave our Site and their privacy practices — not ours — govern the information you provide there. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit.

How we use information

We use the limited information described above to:

  • respond to and process opt-out, access, correction, and deletion requests;
  • maintain, secure, and improve the Site and its content; and
  • understand aggregate usage so we can make the directory more useful.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share the details you submit through the opt-out form except as needed to process your request, to comply with law, or to protect our rights. Aggregate, non-identifying analytics may be processed by our analytics provider as described above.

Data retention

We retain opt-out and data-request submissions only as long as needed to act on them and to keep a record that the request was honored, after which they are deleted or de-identified. Analytics data is retained according to our analytics provider’s standard retention settings.

Your choices and rights

You can decline analytics cookies at any time through the consent banner. You may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or suppression of information relating to you — and opt out of any data practice — through our opt-out / data-request form. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) or the EU/UK GDPR; we honor these requests regardless of your location.

Not a consumer reporting agency (FCRA)

Public Records Central is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. The information available through the Site is not a consumer report and must not be used to make decisions about credit, employment, housing, insurance, tenant screening, or any other purpose covered by the FCRA.

Children’s privacy

The Site is intended for a general, adult audience and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited information we handle. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
